How Can I Reduce the Risk of My Vehicle Being Broken Into?

WHEN IS YOUR VEHICLE BEING PROWLED?

Car prowls during late evening and early morning hours are most frequent in residential areas. Daylight car prowIs most often occur in busy parking lots and business districts. There is no significant difference in the number of incidents on weekend days vs. weekdays.

WHERE IS YOUR VEHICLE WHEN IT IS BROKEN INTO?

At night vehicles are at risk in areas that appear dark and isolated from view such as unattended public parking lots, apartment complexes and residential areas. During the day, vehicles are often targeted in densely populated areas, such as park and rides, business districts and along major arterial roadways.

WHO IS BREAKING INTO YOUR VEHICLE?

Suspects in these crimes usually have a prior criminal records, are drug users and act alone. Common to this type of crime is that the location, lighting, view of the vehicle and ease of entry provided and opportunity for the suspect to act quickly.

IF YOUR VEHICLE IS BROKEN INTO, YOU SHOULD...

Report it to the police immediately. Give a detailed description to the item(s) stolen. If credit card(s) and/or cheques are stolen, report it to the appropriate bank(s) immediately. Inform the police if someone is attempting to use your stolen credit card.

HOW CAN I HELP TO PREVENT MY VEHICLE FROM BEING BROKEN INTO?

REDUCE THE OPPORTUNITY:
